Step by step
Choose the duration
Open the sound panel and choose Controls → Timer. Pick 1, 5, 15, 30, 60 or 120 minutes. Choose Off for no timer.
Choose how it ends
Turn on Fade out to lower the volume during the final minute. With Fade out off, the sound stays at your selected volume until the timer ends.
Start listening
Press Play. If the sound was paused when you picked a timer, the timer starts when playback starts. Controls shows the remaining time while it runs.
Make it your usual timer, if you like
Turn on Use this timer each time and choose a Preferred timer. Each new Play starts a fresh preferred timer. A timer chosen for the current session takes priority.
Cancel this timer or change the habit
Use Cancel beside the running countdown, or set Timer to Off, to cancel the current timer without stopping the sound. To stop using a timer on future sessions, also turn off Use this timer each time. Your favourite saves the sound recipe; it does not save a timer.

Why is the timer not counting down?
If playback is paused, press Play to start listening and its timer.
Why did a timer return when I pressed Play?
Use this timer each time is on. Switch it off if you want future sessions to have no preferred timer.
Can I fade for longer than a minute?
Fade out currently covers the final minute. There is no separate fade-duration control.
